R.D.Blackmore’s timeless tale continues to engage and fascinate audiences, and this original BBC adaptation was first broadcast in 1976 and remains the most popular adaptation to date.

Directed by Barry Letts, the TV pioneer who also directed Doctor Who, The Prisoner of Zenda, The Long Way Home, and many more celebrated British Dramas. Starring John Sommerville, Emily Richard and John Turner.

Set on the lawless moors of Somerset and Devon during the turbulent reigns of James II and Charles II, farmer’s son John Ridd quits school after his father is murdered by the infamous Doone clan and returns to his family home.

Despite distant links to nobility, the Doones are a ruthless band of outlaws, ruling the roost in the rugged and treacherous Doone Valley. The family’s evil streak is personified by the clan’s heir, “hot and savage” Carver Doone, who’s destined to marry cousin Lorna. But when Lorna embarks on a secret affair with honest John, it sets off a tumultuous trail of intense jealousy and violent revenge.
