Timothy Spall, Lesley Manville, George Cole and Annette Crosbie star in an explosive dark comedy drama about a mild-mannered stockbroker’s ferocious response to a series of unfortunate events in his life.

Directed by Golden Globe nominee Joe Wright (Darkest Hour), produced by BAFTA winner Catherine Wearing (Our Mutual Friend) and written by BAFTA-nominee Tony Grounds (Our Girl).

Nominated for a Royal Television Society Award for Best Actor – Female (Lesley Manville).

Timothy Spall plays Mitchel Greenfield, a contented suburban family man.

His life suddenly changes when over a series of days he loses his job as a stockbroker, finds his wife (Oscar-nominee Lesley Manville – Phantom Thread) pleasuring their sleazy neighbour at his own 44th birthday party, and discovers his dad (George Cole) is dying of cancer, and that his mum (Annette Crosbie) has been lying about it.

What results are the beginnings of a nervous breakdown for Mitchel, and an outbreak of anguish, fury, and acting manically towards everyone around him.

What the press said:

“Spall has cornered the market in men on the verge of a nervous breakdown. He has the face of a man abandoned by the world.” Guardian
