Judi Dench leads an all-star cast in Channel 4’s adaptation of Catherine Heath’s novel about the revenge of a woman wronged.

Judi Dench was nominated for a BAFTA in this witty drama, first broadcast on Channel 4 in 1989.

Oscar winner Judi Dench stars as dutiful, upper middle-class wife Bridget.  She discovers her husband Mark, played by BAFTA-nominee Ronald PickupThe Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, has been having an affair with much younger woman Rebecca, played by Frances Barber.

Mark demands a divorce, and while Bridget is shocked she initially does not cause a fuss. She quietly adjusts, until five years later she realises her new life filled with church-going and evening classes has become emotionally empty.

Bridget decides to stop being “perfectly splendid” and get revenge. She moves back into the family home and starts to have her own fun, while scandalising her friends and family as she leaves a trail of chaos in her wake.
