THE FRAGILE HEART: COMPLETE SERIES

RELEASED ON DVD FOR THE FIRST TIME 8TH OCTOBER 2018

Nigel Hawthorne stars in a BAFTA-winning examination of medical ethics, unbridled greed and ruthless ambition.

Rated 7.7 on IMDB.

Oscar-nominee Nigel Hawthorne (Yes Minister) won a BAFTA in 1997 for Best TV Actor for his portrayal of Dr. Edgar Pascoe, an eminent heart surgeon plagued by moral dilemma.

Written by BAFTA-winner Paula Milne (The Politician’s Wife) and directed by BAFTA-nominee Patrick Lau (McCallum), this Channel 4 series was also nominated for the BAFTA for Best Drama Serial.

Coronation Street’s Dearbhla Molloy stars as Edgar’s wife Lileth, a dedicated and sympathetic country GP. As Edgar heads a delegation to China to promote a high-tech system where Western experts conduct operations via satellite link-up, daughter Nicola (BAFTA-winner Helen McCrory (Peaky Blinders / The Queen)), aspiring to follow in her father’s footsteps, displays an unscrupulous approach to her own career advancement.

When Edgar is confronted by an ethical dilemma over Chinese organ sales and human rights abuses, on top of attempting to cover up his daughter’s despicable actions, he is forced into a moral reckoning that, whichever way it plays out, will have calamitous consequences.

Filmed with cinematic flourish on location in the UK, Australia and Taiwan, this powerful three-part drama is an exploration of dedication, ambition and shameless self-interest.
